I started out just like anyone else. In my bedroom.

I was just making beats everyday.

I didn't have any direction.

I didn't know how to consistently create good melodies.

I felt like my beats were cool but there was always "something missing".

I never could understand why major producers beats sounded so much better than mine.

Getting placements seemed like a mystical idea to me. 

I had 0 idea how I was going to make that happen for myself. 

But through investigation and a lot of studying, I learned three things:

1) Sample Making or Melody Creation is the most valuable skill a music producer can have. 

When I say "valuable" here I mean that it can open the door to placements like no other skill can. 

Once I learned how to make great samples, I went from having 0 major placements to producing for Toosii, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Pooh Shiesty, and Rylo Rodriguez in all under a year. 

Being able to make samples is important because it allows you to collaborate with others who have more industry connections than you. 

Think about it. 

Many producers skip learning how to create great melodies because they find it challenging. 

This means that there are a lot of producers who need loops.

They need great samples and they do not know how to make them.

If you can supply them, you will always be in demand.

You don't even have to learn an instrument to do this (I didn't).

You just need the formulas that lead to high quality samples.  

You will always have access to opportunities for placements. 

There's a reason why myself and other producers with platinum plaques have major placements with both our drums and our melodies.

2) Making Beats for Artists Is Different From Making Beats For Yourself

You've probably heard the beats of popular songs and thought to yourself

"How can I make something like that?"

or even

"This beat is so simple. Is this really what artists want?"

Sometimes as producers we focus on how the beat sounds to us.

We focus on how many sounds we used and if the "mix and master" is perfect.

Artists only care about how their flow sounds on the music.

They care about the vibe. 

You need to learn how to create beats for artists, not to impress yourself or other producers. 

3) Without Solid Networking Skills, Your Music Making Ability Doesn't Matter (If You Want Placements).

Everyone knows that in the music industry, your success is all about who you know.

If you don't have any contacts to send or show your music too, it will sit on your hard drive forever. 

There are some amazing producers in the world who we will never know about , simply because they don't know the right people. 

How do you develop your network?

Meeting people, staying connected with them, and consistently providing them with value. 

Developing this skill is necessary and it can really only be learned from someone who has done it.
